DESCRIPTION: The Institute of Physics and Mathematics of the University of Michoacan in Morelia, Mexico, welcomes students of all nationalities to enter its Master’s or PhD program in Physics with the spring (March) or fall (September) term 2011. The admission requirements are:
For the Master’s program:
(i) A bachelor’s degree (licenciatura) in Physics with an overall grade equivalent to a 7.8 (out of 10) in the Mexican system.
(ii) Passing a written admission exam in the following four subjects: Classical Mechanics; Electrodynamics; Thermodynamics and Statistical Physics; Mathematical Methods of Physics.
This exam will be arranged at the home university of the applicant.
(iii) Passing an oral exam that will be arranged using Skype.
(iv) One letter of reference by an academic teacher.
(v) Proof of sufficient proficiency in Spanish for students from non-Hispanic countries.
All accepted candidates will be awarded a graduate fellowship (currently 7,400 pesos / month) for the full two-years period of the Master’s program, under the provision that their grades remain satisfactory (8/10 in all courses).
For the PhD program:
(i) A Master’s degree in Physics with an overall grade equivalent to a 8.6 (out of 10) of our own Master’s program. The equivalence will be determined by the admission committee.
(ii) Passing an oral exam-interview with members of the admissions committee that will be arranged by Skype.
(iii) Two letters of reference by academic teachers.
(iv) Proof of proficiency in English for students from non-English-speaking countries.
All accepted candidates will be awarded a graduate fellowship (currently 10,300 pesos / month) for the full three-years period of the PhD program, under the provision of satisfactory progress.
Administrative help with the enrollment and immigration formalities will be provided.
