NEW 2011 Fellowships from National Hemophilia Foundation-Baxter Clinical Fellowship Program, funded through the generous support of Baxter Healthcare Corporation, intends to increase the number of medical experts committed to comprehensive care of people with bleeding disorders and clotting disorders. NEW 2011 Fellowships

The program is designed to provide hands, not in the clinical training of physicians licensed to mention prepare for an academic career in research on disorders of coagulation and bleeding. Mentored training takes place in hemophilia highly qualified and thrombophilia treatment centers located throughout the United States.

Funding is provided to cover the costs associated with promising medical training who show interest in devoting his career to the care of patients with hemophilia and other bleeding or clotting disorders.

In the field of rare diseases, hemophilia has been touted as a model for the delivery of medical care since most patients benefit from treatment in comprehensive care centers. However, this highly specialized care system has become increasingly fragile as a generation of doctors HTC or retire or decide to leave the field. These departures are accelerating as a byproduct ironic success story HTC:

More and more patients receiving prophylaxis and preventive care, more people are able to infuse into the house, resulting in a reduction of hours of doctor-patient contact. This situation, coupled with relatively stable at a low number of patients with hemophilia, has endangered the profession as a viable practice full time.

Others have systemic problems included the lack of comprehensive training of specialists in bleeding disorders and reduced institutional support for hemophilia care and clinical research. Amid these concerns, there is an inadequate system to meet the needs of people affected by thrombosis and inherited thrombophilia.

One proposed solution to meet the needs of these patients is to support the training of doctors who are experts in the treatment of both conditions in specially designated centers. NHF and Baxter firmly believe that this solution provides the means to further increase the number of quality treatment centers, the number of providers attracted to this field and to stimulate institutional support.
